I finally put together an AIR application for Tumblr. It is still in its Alpha phases, but I would love to get some feedback from people. It is pretty simple at the moment (which is a good thing).
Features:
1. Create any kind of posts.
2. Easy log in
3. Mini dashboard view.
4. Upload progress for photos and music
5. Drag and drop photo uploading (drag photos from your desktop onto the application to upload them).
6. Built in update notifications for new releases of the applications.
7. Windows AND Mac compatible.
I've found a few more bugs and received some suggestions from people.
Just to clarify something about the dashboard: Tumblr doesn't publish the posts of people you are following yet. In fact I don't see any API calls that allow a developer to get a list of the people you are following. But when (if) they do make this available, I will be putting it in there.
Things to fix: adding simple Rich Text (bold, italic, underline, links), preserving line breaks, adding descriptions to link posts, allowing for embed code of videos, adding links to edit posts (note that the Tumblr API doesn't allow for editing a post or deleting), opening links in new tabs rather than new windows... and various graphical tweaks.
It has also been brought to my attention that some mac users are experiencing a problem downloading the AIR file using Safari. Anyways, the file ends up downloading as a regular folder rather than an AIR package. When it is fixed I will make a post on the tumblelog. Thanks!
I have high hopes for this application. Kind of a combo of what tweetdeck and twirl is for twitter. I haven't tried the photo drag option, but I can see how that would make things easier. If this is the alpha, and tumblr takes off (as I think it will) tumblweed is well-positioned to be a leading desktop app for tumblr. Nice work.
